Achieved annual production capacity on the 1 GW scale through horizontal deployment of thin-film technology for TFT LCDs

With a total capital investment of approximately 72 billion yen, Sharp built a thin-film solar cell plant in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture which can boost annual production capacity to the scale of 1 GW. Production will start by March 2010, with an initial cell production capacity of 480 MW. Combined with the 160 MW capacity of our Katsuragi Plant (Nara Prefecture), this will expand Sharp's global total production capacity for thin-film solar cells to 1 GW, at April 2010.
