Katsuragi plant expands its annual solar cell production capacity to 600 MW, the world's highest at that time.

Katsuragi No. 3 Plant

The solar cell production capacity at the Katsuragi plant, in Nara Prefecture, was increased by 100 MW (megawatts) per year, reaching the world's highest at that time, 600 MW. Sharp's aim is to further expand the solar cell business, an industry that holds high expectations of being a major source of clean energy, through measures such as the efficient use of materials, by making thinner cells; the expansion of thin-film solar cells that use little silicon; the establishment of a highly-efficient manufacturing system; and a, expansion of the manufacturing line.
